    Tim Tszyu TKOs Tony Harrison to Become the New Interim WBO Junior Middleweight Champion

    Tim Tszyu defeats Tony Harrison via technical knockout to claim the interim WBO super welterweight title in Sydney. Earlier, Tim Tszyu vowed he’d drown Tony “Superbad” Harrison out in the ninth round. He does exactly the same on Sunday in a SHOWTIME BOXING INTERNATIONAL main event live on SHOWTIME®.     Tszyu delivered multiple unanswered right uppercuts and a right hook to Harrison’s temple, resulting in a ninth-round technical knockout win. This victory secured Tszyu’s claim to the Interim WBO junior middleweight championship. 

    Tszyu, the hometown favourite, achieves this feat 28 years after his father. Kostya Tszyu, Tim’s father, won his first world title, the IBF super-lightweight strap, by knocking out Jake Rodriguez at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas about three decades ago. At that time, Tim was just two months old.

    Tim Tszyu delivered a passionate speech to his home crowd after the fight, emphasizing his victory.

    “I’ve got one sentence: what’s my motherf—ing name?”

    Tszyu said.

    “This is what the f— this is all about, every single one of you. What’s my motherf—ing name? Say my motherf—ing name!”

    Tszyu vs Tony Harrison Highlights

    During the ninth round of the fight at the Sydney SuperDome in Homebush, Tszyu knocked Harrison down with a series of powerful punches, leading to the referee stopping the fight. The victory was well-received by the enthusiastic crowd.

    The Tszyu family has joined the exclusive group of only six father-son pairs who have become boxing world champions. This group includes boxing legends such as Julio Cesar Chavez and his son Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, as well as Leon and Corey Spinks.

    Tszyu vs Tony Harrison Scorecard

    All three judges’ scorecards showed that Tim Tszyu was leading on points, according to the official scorecard shared on Premier Boxing Champions (PBC).

    Zoltan Enyedi from Hungary, Katsuhiko Nakamura from Japan, and Benoit Roussel from Canada had all scored Tim Tszyu ahead by a slim margin of 77-75 through eight rounds of action, according to the surprise of many.

    In January, Tim Tszyu’s first title fight against Jermell Charlo was cancelled due to an injury sustained by the undisputed 154-pound champion. Despite the setback, Tszyu made the tough decision to move forward with his career instead of waiting for someone else’s timeline.

     “Look, I wasn’t going to wait up on ‘Mell, and his life and what he is going to be doing in his career or what honeymoons he wants to take,”

    Tszyu told “Morning Kombat” this week.

    “I’m here to just do me.” 

    In a dazzling display of skill, the 28-year-old Australian boxer secured a world title for the first time in his career. Tim Tszyu’s brute force knocked Tony Harrison to the mat. 

    Although Harrison was able to get back up and continue, the referee stopped the fight shortly after, awarding Tszyu a technical knockout victory. 

    Replay footage reveals Harrison in a sorry state as he receives blows to the head. The fight was called 2 minutes and 33 seconds into the ninth round.

    “What’s my motherf—ing name?”

    Tszyu said in the ring after the fight.

    “The message was sent clearly.

    “You know what’s up; you know what’s next. I’m coming (for Charlo).”

    Main Event’s Ben Damon said in a commentary that “the doubters” had been “destroyed.”

    Here’s the round-by-round coverage of the Tszyu vs Harrison bout. But first, enjoy the walk-ins by both contenders. 

    Round 1 

    In the first round, both fighters are cautious and keep their distance. Tszyu is the aggressor, but Harrison is holding him off with his jab. Just before the round ends, Tszyu lands a decent shot. Although it’s a close call, I’m giving this round to Harrison.

    Round 2 

    The second round sees a bit more action, with both fighters still evenly matched. Harrison continues to use his jab, but Tszyu counters with two powerful right hands. Tszyu appears to be throwing heavier punches at the moment.

    Round 3

    The hometown favorite has a tremendous performance in the following round! Tszyu lands a right hand on Harrison’s jaw, which sends him back into the ropes, but the American manages to hold on. Tszyu continues with a series of similar punches, and Harrison is already in trouble early on in the fight.

    Round 4 

    Tszyu seems no longer concerned about Harrison’s power, and he’s walking him down. Harrison is struggling to put together any offense at the moment. However, just before the end of the round, he manages to land a good counter left hook.

    Round 5 

    Harrison has a much better round in the fifth. But we are still giving it to Tszyu on our scorecard. Tszyu is now mixing up his attacks and targeting the body at the end of his combinations. Although Harrison is still in the fight, Tszyu is in control.

     

    Round 6

    The sixth round is close, but we are giving it to Harrison. Tszyu is the aggressor, but Harrison manages to counter him effectively. It may be personal preference, with Harrison’s jab connecting consistently and Tszyu’s heavier punches.

    Round 7 

    Harrison is making a comeback in the fight. Although Tszyu continues to pressure him against the ropes, he’s taking shots on his way in and missing most of his punches. Tszyu manages to land a good right hand towards the end of the round. But Harrison responds with a shot of his own.

    Round 8 

    It’s another tight round, but we’re leaning towards Tszyu this time. He lands a big right hand early in the round. And the two fighters seem to have a difference in power. Tszyu is able to absorb Harrison’s shots and keep moving forward.

    Round 9

    And there it is! The ninth round proves to be Harrison’s downfall once again. Despite his durability being in question, Harrison managed to withstand a tremendous beating from Tszyu. However, Tszyu’s combination of pressure, power, and skill eventually wore him down. Interestingly, all three judges had the same scorecard going into the ninth round.

    What the Champ Said?

    Harrison is the only man to have beaten unified super welterweight world champion Jermell Charlo. And Tszyu’s current victory over him proves he is more than ready to take on the loud-talking champion who intentionally makes fun of his surname.

    “What’s my motherf***ing name?”

    “What’s my motherf***ing name?”

    Tszyu exclaimed in the ring.

    “I just beat the man who beat the man. What does that make me?”

    Tszyu was asked to send a message to Charlo and his doubters. He replied confidently that he was ready for the challenge and would be waiting for the opportunity to prove himself against the unified super welterweight world champion. 

    “The message was sent clearly. You know what’s up. You know what’s next. I’m coming.

    “Australia you know, the world you know. What’s my motherf***ing name?”

    “I think it’s just a little step in my career. It was a big message to a lot of people,”

    Tszyu said post fight.

    “He’s (Harrison) very smart and experienced in what he does, when I started throwing I got a bit excited and then I thought about how Charlo knocked him out and he went with uppercuts.

    “So for that split second he was in my head and I started throwing the uppercuts.

    “I knew he was going to slow down in the later rounds. I actually predicted round 9 to my team.

    “Round 9 was when I was going to start picking it up and start landing the shots. I didn’t know the exact shot that I landed first to rock him but I knew that he was slowing down.”

    “In all honesty, during the rounds I was thinking ‘this is an easy fight, I’m not even tired here … what’s going on this guy is supposed to be good’,” 

    Tszyu added.

    The Respect is Always There

    “The respect is always there. We had a bit of banter, but we always had respect for each other. Tonight, I proved to him I was the better man,” 

    Tszyu said.

    A Classy Response from Tony Harrison

    Just like a true warrior, Tony Harrison comes up with embracing the defeat, praising his opponent’s will and skill.

    “I’m cool, man. I trained extremely hard. I don’t need no moral victories. The better man won tonight. The city was electric, the crowd was electric,”

    Harrison said.

    “The better man won tonight. I ain’t gonna give my assessment tonight. He’s on to bigger and better things, and I don’t know where I go from here. Tim, congratulations, my boy.”

    “Man, I’m ready,” Charlo’s Response 

    Charlo is sure that Tszyu won’t be able to star against him like he did Sunday, especially with a bunch of world titles on the line for 154-pound division. 

    “Man, I’m ready,”

    said Charlo whose injured left hand is still healing.

    “I’m a different animal in there. I’m a different fighter than Tony.”

    “He was impressive, he did what he had to do at home,”

    Jermell Charlo said from the Showtime Studios.

    “But my movement, my style, my power will make him have to do different things.”

    “He doesn’t really show a lot of athleticism to me. When you’ve got skills, and you’ve got styles and you’ve got power all together, you get four belts. He’s going to be a tough fight because he’s coming forward, but I think he’s perfect for my style,”

    he said.

    “I know he can’t take my punch, because I just know my punch is different. It just made me want to fight, just get this over with, shut him up, I’ve shut a lot of them up, it’s just another one.

    “He’s going to do the same thing. He’s not going to change much.”
