Brady’s performance, coming in on just two weeks’ notice to replace Jack Della Maddalena, showcased his grappling dominance as he bossed former champion Edwards through three rounds before submitting him in the fourth to make a strong case for a shot at the winner of the UFC 315 bout between champion Belal Muhammad and Della Maddalena.
The night also saw a big win for New Zealand’s light heavyweight contender Carlos Ulberg, who edged past returning former champion Jan Blachowicz in the co-main event. Both men had their sights set on a shot at the 205-pound title, and it was Ulberg who added to his argument for a title shot with a hard-earned unanimous decision win after three super-competitive rounds.
And an exciting UFC career began just as another was coming to a close, as Alexia Thainara enjoyed a dream debut by claiming a first-round submission finish of the retiring Molly McCann. Thainara danced her way to the Octagon, defeated McCann in the first round and danced again as she celebrated her successful Octagon debut, after taking the fight on just one week’s notice.
For McCann, meanwhile, it was time to call it a career, and she used her post-fight speech to announce her retirement from the UFC.
