The card also features a battle for the women’s strawweight title, as Zhang Weili welcomes the challenge of undefeated contender Tatiana Suarez, who poses a serious threat to the Chinese champion’s hopes of surpassing Joanna Jedrzejczyk’s record of six title fight victories in the strawweight division.
The rest of the UFC 312 fight card doesn’t feature the same amount of big-name stars you’d usually see on a UFC pay-per-view event, but there are still plenty of fascinating matchups to keep us entertained, including a potential Fight of the Night clash between featherweights Jack Jenkins and Gabriel Santos.
There’s also a fun clash in the women’s flyweight division, as rising strawweight Bruna Brasil moves up a weight class to take on China’s Wang Cong, who is looking to bounce back after a shock defeat in her last UFC appearance.
There’s also a bantamweight battle between two high-quality debutants. Australia’s Colby Thicknesse arrives in the UFC with an undefeated record, and the HEX bantamweight title on his resume. He’ll make his Octagon debut against Alexandre Topuria, the older brother of reigning featherweight champion Ilia Topuria.
And with Thicknesse coming from the same team as Alexander Volkanovski, we may well see Volkanovski in his corner, while his nemesis Ilia Topuria will be in the opposite corner, helping his brother.
