The duo go to battle on Saturday, 7th June, inside Bangkok, Thailand’s Lumpinee Stadium, and the Thai star will be looking to continue his quest towards entering the world title conversation.
Kovtun is on a two-fight streak in ONE Championship, with his latest win against Myanmar warrior Soe Lin Oo in March at ONE Fight Night 29, showing his ability to take on the toughest strikers on the planet.
Rambolek credits the Russian for his talent, but he believes he’s figured out a way to overcome him when they collide.
“Dmitrii Kovtun is a good fighter, no doubt. I never underestimate anyone,” he said. “But I watched his fights and came up with a plan to deal with him in the ring.”
With the fighting moniker of Rambolek, it doesn’t take much to compare the 22-year-old striker to movie icon John Rambo, who is known for his never-say-die spirit and unmerciful nature.
The same attributes can be seen when the #5-ranked bantamweight Muay Thai contender enters the ring. His gas tank is one of his most lethal weapons, allowing him to take foes into deep waters.
Rambolek believes this will be what sets him apart from Kovtun at ONE Fight Night 32. He intends to push the pace, chop him down, and take any opportunity that presents itself to score a highlight-reel finish.
“[Kovtun] seems to run out of steam towards the end and doesn’t really have a tight defense. He likes to wait and counter. His strength is his left hook, but I have no problem with his southpaw style,” Rambolek said.
“For this fight, I’ll probably focus more on the kicks because Dmitrii doesn’t defend them too well. If I see an opening to knock him out, I’m going for it.”
