Usyk was in London this week, and conducted sit-down interviews on the London Eye with ESPN and TNT Sports, who quizzed him on a variety of subjects, including his likely next bout.
And while he didn’t give much away in the ESPN interview, while speaking to TNT Sports, he laid out his plan for the rest of his career.
Usyk is targeting two more fights before he hangs up the gloves, and, talking to TNT Sports, he revealed that one would likely come against the winner of the February 22 IBF world title bout between Daniel Dubois and Joseph Parker.
He then dropped something of a bombshell, as he revealed that the other could come in an exhibition bout – “show bout,” as he called it – against UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira.
“First is who wins the next fight on 22 February,” Usyk stated.
“Next, maybe a ‘show fight’ with Alex Pereira. Maybe. Why not? Alex wants to.”
The interviewer opted not to follow up on the blockbuster news, as he instead asked Usyk more about a possible fight with Dubois.
“I think it’s a bad idea to make (a rematch with) Daniel, because Daniel has a future fight,” Usyk said.
“He says, ‘Hey, listen! I want a rematch!’ Please, make work on February 22. If you win, (you’re) welcome.”
Another potential opponent could be Tyson Fury, with Usyk not convinced that “The Gypsy King” is fully retired.
“I think (he’s not done yet), because Tyson’s a great man, a showman,” he said.
“Maybe, but I think Tyson, a little bit (of) rest with his family, drink beer, and back in the ring. I think.”
