Poland’s Mateusz Legierski recaptured the OKTAGON lightweight championship at OKTAGON 80 in Munich, Germany. The Polish fighter, who previously held OKTAGON gold in 2022, returned to the top of the division with a unanimous decision victory over Turkey’s Attila Korkmaz at the SAP Garden.
The Final Verdict: Mateusz Legierski reunited with OKTAGON lightweight belt
Mateusz Legierski recaptured the OKTAGON lightweight title at OKTAGON 80 as he was reunited with the title, 2,105 days after he last held it.
The 29-year-old outpointed Turkish contender Korkmaz over five rounds to recapture the title and crown a second successful stint with the promotion since his return to OKTAGON in 2022.
Since then, the Pole has won six and lost just once as he quickly re-established himself as one of the top dogs at lightweight. And his victory over Korkmaz cemented him as the man to beat at 155 pounds heading into 2026.

Legierski bounces back from doctor’s verdict to capture championship gold
Speaking to OKTAGON commentator Bryan Lacey in the cage after his championship-winning performance, Legierski revealed how a doctor told him he’d never fight again.
“I feel exactly the same when I got this belt for the first time, it was really emotional, and I’m waiting for the (first) defense.
“I’d like to thank especially my mother, who’s 50 tomorrow, and she’s helping me a lot. I really appreciate it. I promised her that I’m going to get this title, and I delivered.
“Congratulations and thankful for my opponent. Nine months ago, many doctors said that I would never fight again, and I’m here holding this title. Thank you very much once again.”
What’s next for Mateusz Legierski?
Legierski’s next outing will see him look to defend the title for the first time, and he’s already revealed that he hopes that his first title defence will take place on home soil, with OKTAGON set to break new ground in Poland in 2026.
“Thank you for OKTAGON, the best organization on the world. I hope Ondrej will give me this fight, and we will see (me defend the title) in Poland.”
The promotion has already confirmed an event in Szczecin, Poland on April 11 for OKTAGON 86, and Legierski would love to headline that card.
As for his likely next opponent, former champion Ivan Buchinger currently sits at the top of the OKTAGON lightweight rankings. He’d be the natural choice to face him
