Martyn Ford, a former-cricketer who entered into fitness industry as a result of his injury during a training session that put an end to his Ashes dreams, has decided to start his career in MMA. Following his injury, his constant efforts in the world of bodybuilding and some roles in movies has earned him worldwide recognition. Now the 204 cm bodybuilder has decided to enter MMA’s realm in an attempt to explore his full potential. The news comes right after the clash of MMA titans in UFC 229. The 36-year-old who is known as “The Nightmare” after his role in movie Undisputed 4 has signed an agreement with a Polish MMA promotion KSW.
Ford, would be making his debut in heavyweight category and was present in KSW’s ceremony held in Wembley Arena in UK that took place yesterday (October 7).
The professional bodybuilder was quick to share the news with his fans. He took to Instagram stating,
“So it’s now official KSW it’s all signed and I cannot wait. What an incredible night, amazing fighters, amazing organisation, extremely excited to get to work now and step into this cage. This is going to be no easy challenge, but having the most incredible friends and support network I’ve no doubt this will be insane.”
Whom Martyn would be taking on first is still unknown. Considering his huge size, it is only fair to assume that he would be facing off someone of his own size.
Right now, Polish Mariusz Pudzianowski who is a MMA fighter and five-time World’s Strongest Man winner seems like a good match against the gigantic 6’8” bodybuilder.
Mariusz entered into MMA after a fancy career in the fitness world and has managed a record of 12-6 in MMA thus far. He last fought against Karol Bedorf in June; however faced defeat via submission.
Currently KSW’s heavyweight category is reigned by British Phil De Fries as he handed over disgrace to Bedorf, while Ford watched the showdown with intrigue.
While talking about his change in career, Ford wrote the following on Instagram in 2016,
“I was lost when I finished playing cricket. I was convinced I would turn pro and that would be my life set out. With injuries, bad luck and just losing love for the game that never happened. But the void was never filled. I knew deep down I needed to succeed at something, that I had an ability to shine in some way.”
He went on to add,
“I have always been so focused and committed with a crazy ambition to win. Fast forward to today, I’m travelling the world with fitness, made two films with three more already lined up. Not to mention three businesses to my name.”
Whether Martyn Ford will be successful inside the octagon is yet to be seen. However, RDX Sports wishes our current ambassador the best on his latest venture.
