Torres was granted permission by BRAVE CF to compete on RIZIN’s huge New Year’s Eve card at the Saitama Super Arena, where he defeated Japanese contender Makoto Shinryu via split decision after three hard, competitive rounds.
That win has stoked Torres’ competitive fire, and “Shorty” has stated his wish to continue representing BRAVE CF on the Japanese stage, by entering the rumoured RIZIN FF flyweight Grand Prix tournament.
“I’m happy that I’m ending the year strong,” said Torres.
“I want to go back to flyweight. This fight was a test to see if I could make flyweight, and I made the weight pretty easily and was able to hydrate well. I believe my next fight will be at flyweight.”
BRAVE CF’s flyweight division is looking more stacked than ever as the promotion plans its 2025 schedule, and high up on their to-do list will be the task of crowning their inaugural flyweight world champion.
Torres wants to be that man, but he also wants to capture another title, with the former BRAVE CF bantamweight champion and IMMAF amateur standout setting his sights on RIZIN FF tournament glory.
“Hopefully, we can collaborate with BRAVE CF and RIZIN again, do the flyweight Grand Prix, and fight some of the greats like Kyoji Horiguchi,” he said.
“That would be very exciting. I used to train with him at American Top Team.”
Horiguchi also competed at RIZIN 49 on New Year’s Eve, and claimed a victory of his own to capture the promotion’s flyweight title. Now Torres wants to fight on two separate fronts in 2025 as he targets flyweight championship glory in two promotions, including a title challenge against Horiguchi, in the same year.
