Paul will take on WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis in an exhibition bout on November 14 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
The matchup will be contested as an exhibition, with Davis’s world title not on the line, due to the massive difference in weight between the pair.
Davis is world champion at 135 pounds, while Paul’s last bout saw him compete at cruiserweight, at 200 pounds. The official weight and the number of rounds for this matchup is still being negotiated between the two parties and the Georgia State Athletic Commission, who will oversee the fight.
The fight will see Paul face another name from his publicised hit list, which also includes Canelo Alvarez, Conor McGregor and rival YouTuber KSI.
It looked like moves were being made for Paul to box former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, but it seems that Paul and his team have pivoted to the Davis fight, with the matchup set to be promoted by Paul’s promotional company, Most Valuable Promotions, with the fight set to be streamed live internationally on Netflix.
“The original timeline assumed that ‘Tank’ would be fighting Jake [Paul] after he fought Roach,” Most Valuable Promotions co-founder Nakisa Bidarian told ESPN.
“The outcome didn’t necessarily change anything per se, but our timeline of waiting around to see what Davis was going to do resulted in Jake fighting Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.”
Despite the much-publicised talk about a Paul-Joshua fight now giving way to a Paul-Davis matchup, Bidarian said plans are still in motion for Paul to face Joshua in 2026.
“I think it’s just a matter of hitting ‘Go,'” he said.
“Jake is looking at it like he wants to show the world that he’s going to fight David and then he plans to take on Goliath.”
Paul kicked off the verbal skirmish between the pair with a statement, saying, “Gervonta is an angry little elf who has been disrespecting my name for too long. is nickname might be Tank, but I’m an FPV drone and I’m about to disable his ass.
“Yes, he is one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world, but my motto is anyone, anytime, anyplace, against all odds. And I like my odds. First, I am going to kill David, then I will go on to slaughter Goliath, and you are all going watch me do it, breaking viewership records again. Atlanta. Friday, Nov 14th. The worst night of Gervonta’s career, live only on Netflix.”
