Your gloves are the essential part of your boxing gear and they remain constantly in touch with your sweaty hands. Boxing gloves, like any other sports gear, need care and maintenance. Your gloves can develop foul smell and fungus with constant use. The best way to avoid that odour is to take precautionary measures from the start so that it doesn’t develop at all. With few simple tips you can keep your gloves clean and odour-free.

  • The biggest mistake made by most of the boxers is they put their gloves in bags after training. After your training do not put your gloves in your bag as it is likely to generate bacteria.
  • Dry your gloves thoroughly from inside and outside with some dry towel or cloth.
  • Once you reach your home, hang your gloves somewhere with good air ventilation.
  • You can put your boxing gloves wrapped in some airtight plastic bags overnight in the freezer for killing bacteria. After that, place them in sunlight for 1–2 days.
  • Stuff your gloves with old socks or newspapers when they are not in use.
  • You can use, once a week, the antiseptic spray for killing bacteria.
  • Some people also use ordinary deodorants for getting rid of that smell but that is a temporary solution. You can buy glove deodorant and spray after use. These deodorants kill bacteria and your gloves last longer.
  • Buy some cedar chips, fill them in socks and tie their ends. Put these in your gloves and it is a good remedy to overcome foul smell.
  • Use hand wraps to absorb sweat and easy wash.
  • You can buy two pairs of gloves so that when one is in use, you can dry the other pair.
  • Do not overuse chemicals and sprays as these are not good for your gloves. The surface of gloves can develop cracks.
