Since Alvarez’s coach has made his confession on the Ariel Helwani Show that he had suggested him to land a slanted elbow at his rival; however signaled a 12-6 instead with his arm, it’s his turn to face the music now.
Alvarez’s coach said the following in his video:
He definitely did what he saw me do, definitely my fault. I definitely wasn’t meaning to be cheap at all. I’m not stupid. I’ve been doing this a long time. I know he can’t do a top elbow. Out of the hundreds and hundreds of fights that I’ve done, every single time they say you can’t do that elbow. It was my fault, I feel horrible.”
While speaking about Goddard’s immediate decision, Henry seemed approving of it. This is what he said,
“I’ve done a ton fights with (Goddard) as a ref, and if Goddard was in the (cage) again, I’d have 100 percent faith in him. He’s a great ref.”
A little misleading gesture cost Alvarez a win and a spot in the ring for the title fight. This was the Underground King’s final bout with UFC, and now he has to bag a sponsor with a big loss under his table. The current loss leaves him with one win in his recent four bouts.
Poirier, on the contrary, is all set for a head-on encounter for a title bout, but first we have to see what is the outcome of Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov upcoming fight. As for Alvarez, we can only hope that he lands a UFC contract again.
