After a build-up that evoked memories of the epic rivalry shared by their respective fathers in the 1990s, Eubank Jr. and Benn set the stage for a huge clash in the English capital as the two fighting sons went head to head for bragging rights on a huge night of boxing.
And remarkably, after a build-up that had a little bit of everything, including a last-minute arrival at the stadium of Eubank Jr. father, Chris Eubank Sr, the fight lived up to the hype as the pair went toe to toe for 12 breathless rounds in North London.

Benn started out the early aggressor, before Eubank found his rhythm and range. But, with the rounds closely contested and the momentum seemingly swinging back and forth from round to round, it felt like the fight was still up for grabs as the two rivals entered the final round.
And, with bragging rights, family pride and their own bitter rivalry at stake, the two warriors planted their feet and went all-out for victory in a memorable final three minutes that will live long in the memory as more than 60,000 fans roared both men to the final bell.

When the scorecards were totalled, it was Eubank Jr. whose hand was raised, with all three judges scoring the fight 116-112. The result seemed like the right one, though the four-round disparity felt a little too large.
However, it meant that Eubank took the victory he so desperately craved, while Benn, who appeared to have the momentum heading into fight night after Eubank missed weight by 0.05lb – a mistake that cost him half a million dollars – was left to contemplate his first career defeat.
“I knew I was capable of that,” said Eubank, who was later transported to hospital.
“The fact that our fathers did what they did all those years ago brings out a spirit in you, and we showed that tonight.
“I pushed through. There is a lot of things that have gone on in my life, and I am happy to have this man [his father] back with me. We upheld the family name – onwards and upwards. I didn’t know Conor had what he had in him.”

Eubank said that his father’s hoped-for, but still-unexpected arrival for the fight gave him additional motivation to succeed.
“I wasn’t sure he would be here,” he admitted.
“It gave me a lift. It was special. He needed to be here, all of this is because what he did.”
For Benn, meanwhile, it was a night of disappointment as he lost out to his rival, much like his father did to Eubank Sr. in their iconic first meeting in November 1990.
Trying to process the result, Benn suggested that his time away from the ring may have had a part to play in his defeat.
“Maybe inactivity was a factor, I had 14 months out of the ring,” he said.
“It was a close fight, I’ll have to watch it back. I enjoyed it.
“Maybe I stayed on the ropes too long. We knew Chris is a good fighter and fighting talk is fighting talk. I believe I can fight at 160.”
