All You Need to Know About Hand Wraps
Hand wrap is one of the most widely used sports equipment. Whether you are a trainer, a fighter, body builder or a fitness enthusiast, you must own a pair of hand wraps, even better if you can afford to buy more than one because they need to be washed and cleaned after every workout. So you need to have an extra pair as a precaution. Hand wrap is something that you can buy off-the-shelf as they come in standard size for all. Only difference is in the length of the wrap, some are extra-long for people with big hands.
In this hand wrap guide, you will get to know about different types of wraps, wrapping techniques and how you can take care of these wraps so they last much longer.
Types of Wraps
Hand wraps are generally classified into two types: disposable and reusable. However, it is the reusable ones that are more popular because 1) they are easy to apply, and 2) they can be used repeatedly.
Length of Wraps
Hand wraps are available in 120” and 180” sizes; if you have smaller to medium size hands then 120” hand wrap will work perfectly. However, if you want heavier grip than normal, use 180” wrap but it will take more revolutions around the hands and might hamper gloves to fit properly.
Styles of Wraps
There are quite a few different styles of hand wraps available. Some of these are called herringbone wraps, gauze bandage wraps, and cotton herringbone wraps, which is the traditional style that has been around for a long time. These are not stretchy like the modern elastic style hand wraps, which are more popular these days and are also used by the professionals.
Colours
Even though it doesn’t matter what colour of hand wraps you are wearing, but still, it’s worth mentioning that these modern days reusable hand wraps are available in varieties of attractive colours.
Cotton Padding
Some people like extra protection with hand wraps, they do this by adding cotton along the knuckle line and use hand wrap above it.
Basic Hand Wrap Technique
Most important thing to remember while applying hand wrap is to make a fist, and make sure the wrapping is not too tight, and is allowing blood circulation in your hands after putting on the boxing gloves.
