Citing VideoAmp data in the United States and first party data in global markets and the US, MVP reported that the headline bout between Taylor and Serrano drew an estimated average minute audience of nearly six million global viewers from the start of the fight to the final bell.
A press release from the promotion also stated that the US-only AMA figure stood at 4.2 million viewers, per VideoAmp and Netflix, with that number making the fight the most watched professional women’s sports event of the year so far.
The event was a hit internationally, too, with the fight card hitting the No. 1 spot on Netflix in the United States, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, while reaching Top 10 status in 43 countries.
Taylor-Serrano 3 also enjoyed on-the-ground success, with the event drawing a sold-out crowd of 19,721 at Madison Square Garden for a gate of $2.63 million, which constituted the largest ever gate for a women’s boxing card, and the biggest ever gate for a women’s sporting event at The Garden.
Other records included the official Guinness World Record for the most world championship bouts contested on a single fight card – male or female – with 17 championships contested in all.
MVP co-founders Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian released a statement hailing the event’s success.
“MVP’s Taylor vs. Serrano 3 wasn’t just a fight, it was the start of a movement for boxing and redefined what’s possible for women’s sports on a global stage,” they said.
“Nearly six million people tuned in to witness history, with 4.2 million viewers in the US, which was more than this year’s Stanley Cup Final, the WNBA Final and the French Open Finals for both the women and men matches.
“At MVP, we’ve made it our mission to make women’s boxing a global force, and this is proof that the demand is there for premium content and only growing. The most viewed all women’s boxing or MMA event in history.
“We’re proud to have built the largest platform in the world for female fighters, and we’re just getting started. Thank you to Netflix and Madison Square Garden for sharing our commitment to elevate women’s sports and for helping us deliver this moment to the world.”
