Blaydes has clearly had enough of the UFC heavyweight title laying dormant, and says it’s time Jones was stripped of the title.
“Without the movement (in the division), where are we going to go?” Blaydes told reporters at UFC Baku media day.
“Eventually, number five is going to move up and get a higher opponent, number four, number three, and so on. If he doesn’t fight, like I said a month ago, I would like him to be stripped.
We all get it. He’s the GOAT. He’s great. But if you’re not going to be active, what are you doing holding the belt?
I get what he’s doing. He enjoys this. He enjoys his name being talked about. I’m over it already. I don’t even know how long it’s been since he beat Stipe, but it’s been long enough. I think he should be stripped.”
Blaydes’ opponent at UFC Baku, Kuniev, concurred with his view.
“I think it’s time for Jon Jones to give up the belt, to relinquish the belt,” he told reporters during UFC Baku media day.
“I think the true champion is Tom Aspinall. I’m not sure why Jon Jones is holding up the division and why the UFC is letting him do this, whey they’re letting him keep the belt.
“I think that Tom Aspinall being the true champion and not having fought for about six months already, this is way too long. The whole division is on hold. The whole division, specifically the top five, top 10, should have more fights, and there should be more movement, so we can figure out who is actually the top contender.”
