OKTAGON 72 will take place at the Fortuna Arena, known locally as Eden Stadium, on June 14, with longtime rivals Karlos Vemola and Attila Vegh set to throw down for the third and final time.
In a bout dubbed “Judgement Day,” Vemola and Vegh will face off in a trilogy bout with the score sitting at one win apiece between the two light heavyweight rivals.
The first meeting between the pair took place back in November 2019, where Vegh knocked out Vemola in just 127 seconds in a bout dubbed “The Fight of the Century” at The O2 Arena in Prague.
At the time, it was the biggest fight in OKTAGON MMA history, and it sparked a rivalry that has burned for more than five years.
Vemola bounced back from that defeat to become a two-division champion in OKTAGON MMA after capturing titles at middleweight and light heavyweight, but he had to wait until June 2024 until he’d get his shot at revenge over his nemesis.
That came back in Prague, at the first ever OKTAGON show at Eden Stadium as he claimed a second-round submission victory over Vegh to gain payback for that 2019 defeat.
At the time, it seemed like the natural conclusion to their rivalry, but despite rumours that both men would retire from the sport, they have both kept their careers alive.
Vemola continued to reign as light heavyweight champion until he was dethroned by Will Fleury at OKTAGON 65 in December.
Now, with no distractions or title obligations to attend to, Vemola is focused solely on winning his fighting trilogy with Vegh, and the pair will get a big stage to finish up their rivalry on June 14.
