A lot of discussions have been going on regarding Anthony Joshua vs. David Haye. The pugilists are likely to face each other in the ring very soon and Eddie Hearn says that this fight is inevitable. ‘Hayemaker’, who possesses a track record of 27-2 with 25 KOs, last fought against Mark de Mori after three long years of inactivity. Haye knocked de Mori out in the first round.
On the other hand, Joshua holds a track record of 15-0 with 15 knockouts. He last fought against his rival Dillian Whyte and defended his Commonwealth heavyweight title. Joshua went past three rounds for the first time but managed to knock Whyte out in the seventh round of the fight to win the British heavyweight belt.
Both the British fighters possess exceptional fighting skillset and not much can be said about result and outcomes of a fight between the two. However, a few boxing analysts and professional boxers have shared their views regarding the much anticipated fight.
Jim Watt:
Watt said that the fight is gonna be a big task for Joshua but he also thinks the fact Joshua’s on the way up and his dreams are ahead of him would give him an upper edge. Talking about Haye, Watt said that he is a world-class pugilist and Joshua is no match for him.
Tyson Fury:
“I think Joshua is a bit of a novice and struggled with Dillian Whyte. If Haye catches him early, it’s goodnight. It’s curtains. But why should Joshua give Haye a chance? Whoever lands that big shot first would win. Heavyweight boxing is a unique sport – one punch and it’s all over!”
Johnny Nelson:
“Right now, I’d back Haye and I think he’d go for the knockout, but you get Joshua with two or three more fights under his belt, then it’s a different kettle of fish.”
Glenn McCrory:
McCrory suggested that Joshua should not take on Haye as he is not ready for that fight yet. He said that Joshua is gonna be a superstar for long time but he has to wait for that and he should not take on Haye right now. He also said that if the fight takes place this year, Haye is going to win.
Dereck Chisora:
“I’m a north London guy so I have to go with Anthony Joshua,” said Chisora. “His jab alone would take Haye out of the equation.” Chisora also talked about Haye vs. Klitschko and said that Haye went into his shell as Klitschko hit him with two strong jabs. He also said that Joshua’s jabs are stronger and fiercer and Haye would lose if he fights against Joshua.
This is what the professionals and experts think regarding the possible outcomes of the fight. Not many people think that Joshua can beat Haye, due to lack of experience, but looking at his unique fighting style, it can be said that Joshua has the ability to knock down Haye. I would want Joshua to win and would be cheering him all the way, but I think if it happened now it’d likely be a win for Haye just because of experience. De Mori was no real challenge for Haye, as much as he claims it was he wasn’t a good fight for him; it was a comfort fight for getting back in the ring testing for “ring rust”. That said, Haye knows what it’s like to go the distance on several occasions, despite having a different approach now under McGuigan. Joshua needs to go a couple of more fights over a longer distance to work out his game, then go for Haye. I have no doubt that he will be a future world champion.
