Artur Beterbiev, the WBC, WBO, and IBF light heavyweight champion with a perfect 19-0 knockout record, faced off against Anthony “The Beast from the East” Yarde on Saturday night in OVO Arena London. Artur Beterbiev vs Anthony Yarde results the same for Beterbiev. Another knockout, another victory, and a perfect KO streak continuing!

Although Yarde opened strongly to take the lead, Beterbiev’s power punches began to tell by round three. An exchange of heavy strikes in round four edged towards Beterbiev, who was bloodied but unbowed by round six.

It seemed to inspire Yarde. He continued trading powerful shots in the seventh before finally succumbing in the eighth as Beterbiev hit him with a decisive right hand followed by a flurry of punches, which put an end to proceedings.

Despite being ahead on two cards at that point, Yarde could not rise, and the fight ended at 2:01 into the round.

Artur Beterbiev Vs. Anthony Yarde Highlights

The Russian KO artist emerged victorious today in London, successfully defending his WBC, IBF, and WBO light heavyweight titles with an eighth-round stoppage of fellow contender Anthony Yarde. The official time of the end was 2:08 in the eighth round, shortly after Yarde had been put to the canvas.

Throughout the fight, Beterbiev, 19-0 (19 KOs), showed both his tactical savviness and brutal power to keep Yarde, (23-3, 22 KO), on the back foot for much of the contest.

Despite a commendable performance from Yarde, who was faster and better than ever before, Beterbiev’s experience allowed him to stay ahead on points and close out the fight in spectacular fashion.

Such a splendid performance could potentially earn him a shot at an undisputed title match-up against Dmitry Bivol later this year.

No matter what angle you take on this result, the fight was truly remarkable, and both combatants have plenty to be proud of. Despite the loss, Yarde is sure to have gained more recognition as a genuine light heavyweight contender.

Meanwhile, at 38 years of age, Artur Beterbiev has continued his undefeated streak like a true Terminator of the sport.

Artur Beterbiev Vs. Anthony Yarde Scorecard

At the time of his knockout in the eighth round, Anthony Yarde had come out ahead on two scorecards, with Robin Taylor scoring him one point up at 66-67, while Jun Bae Lim saw him three points ahead on 65-68.

The only judge with Artur Beterbiev as the winner was Jerome Lades, who scored it 67-66. Despite being seven years older than his opponent, Beterbiev still proved too much for Yarde. As the proceedings reveal, the veteran pushed the challenger until he was eventually stopped in round eight.

    Beterbiev vs Yarde Round-by-Round Coverage

At London’s Wembley Arena, Artur Beterbiev showed his undoubted talent as he retained his world light-heavyweight titles against an inspired Anthony Yarde.

The undefeated champion had to dig deep to find the shots needed to stop Yarde in the eighth round after being pushed all night by the determined challenger, who was adamant about proving that he belonged at the highest level of the sport.

Here are the round-by-round highlights of the Beterbiev vs Yarde clash for you:

    Round 1:

Yarde gets off to a brisk start with some well-placed left hooks as Beterbiev advanced. However, the veteran begins to find his range by shooting hooks and right hands over the top.

    Round 2:

The two punchers exchange leather on the inside, with Yarde managing to land his signature left hook. But Beterbiev counters with some clubbing right hands. The Russian is starting to find his range, and Yarde moves well, punching in spurts.

    Round 3:

Yarde utilizes his movement effectively, working his left hook as Beterbiev stalks him down and attempts to shoot hooks and right hands over the top. One left hook from the Russian catches Yarde’s attention in particular.

    Round 4:

Without hesitation, Beterbiev pins Yarde against the corner and lets loose with all his power shots. Yarde answers with a right hand but is met by another hard shot from the Russian that shakes him up again. This round was undoubtedly in favor of the champion.

    Round 5:

Yarde starts showing signs of wear and tear due to taking punishment. Yet he answers back with a big left hook and then a right hand, which pushes Beterbiev back momentarily. It is an impressive comeback from the challenger at such a tense stage of the fight.

    Round 6:

Beterbiev responds immediately by landing a sharp right hook, which cuts Yarde. He retaliates by throwing combinations targeted at Beterbiev’s body coupled with lead rights from himself.

    Round 7:

Yarde keeps firing away at Beterbiev’s body, forcing him back towards the ropes. They trade blows in an extraordinary exchange of punches there until Beterbiev lands some punishing uppercuts and hooks, which seem to shake up Yarde badly.

    Round 8:

Beterbiev sends Yarde to the canvas with a mighty right hand, which leaves him with a cut on his left eye. Yarde braves up on his feet to continue before the count.

Beterbiev starts to rain down punches, but before Yarde can hit the ground, his corner throws in the towel and stops the fight!

What a fight, two absolute warriors who deserve so much credit.@mranthonyyarde will be back, no doubt.#BeterbievYarde pic.twitter.com/92wvVqKHRV

    The Champ’s Words

BT caught up with the champ right after the fight, and here’s what he says:

“You know every fight is different. Different feelings, different preparation, fighters are different.

“I can’t say I did a bad fight, but if I did it again, I would do better, but I feel good.

“Every boxer in this category can punch hard, and Anthony did too. Anthony is 31. He’s young. I turned pro 28, he has time, and I hope he does well in the future.”

Show of Respect, the True Sign of Champs!

The way both fighters end the contest is the beauty of the game. Indeed, a true display of sportsmanship!

2023 Fight of the Year Contender

It was hard to call going in, with the champion being so heavily favored over Yarde. But Yarde had a different idea, challenging Beterbiev to meet him at his level and throwing down an early contender for Fight of the Year.

We may have our 2023 Fight of the Year already ?? #BeterbievYarde pic.twitter.com/yXPbPmqDn6

    — Top Rank Boxing (@trboxing) January 28, 2023

The two men went back and forth, trading heavy leather and smart moves. Yarde exceeds expectations in many ways, drawing the most exciting fight we’ve seen from Beterbiev, perhaps in his whole pro career.

Still Lions in the Camp! Yarde’s Media Interaction After the Fight

Yarde has a champion mentality that oozes out of the cracks and crevices of defeat! He acknowledges and embraces his defeat without losing hopes and aspirations. In his interview with a BT correspondent, he tells him there are “still lions in the camp, lioooooooons…”.

Jake Paul and Tommy Fury Stint Delays Main Event

Before the main event, two other men set to face off in the ring – American YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul and British fighter Tommy Fury. As Paul prepared to enter the ring, Fury ripped off his shirt and threw it down, the crowd roaring behind him. It was an electrifying moment that set the stage for a night of explosive action.

As the two fighters prepared for their ring walks, the fight-hungry fans weren’t overly impressed by the theatrics. Some boos echoed through Wembley Arena as they made their way to the ring, reflecting growing anticipation for the main event.

It was clear that these men were in for a grueling night of action, and nothing could stop them from taking each other on. So, they had to be separated by security.

The battle between the two combatants is set to take place on 26th February in Saudi Arabia.

They are doing walkouts and a faceoff in the ring with Tommy Fury and Jake Paul before the Beterbiev-Yarde main event. Rare to see this.

    Tyson Fury Was Also There!

Tyson Fury and Derek Chisora put their history behind them to reunite at Wembley Arena months after Chisora was stopped twice by the heavyweight champion in the famous Fury vs Chisora trilogy bout. They were photographed sitting together in good spirits despite their rivalry.

Both men have come a long way over the years, with Fury proving himself as one of the top boxers in his division and Chisora becoming a fan favorite for his exciting style. It’s an inspiring story for all sports fans, showing that even prolonged rivalries can be overcome.

    What’s Next for Beterbiev?

With the win, Artur Beterbiev maintains his WBC, WBO, and IBF titles. In doing so, he brings himself one step closer to a bout with WBA champion Dmitry Bivol that would establish an undisputed champion at 175 pounds. After his fight, Beterbiev was vocal about his eagerness for the match-up.

“I’m looking for the next job,”

    Beterbiev said.

“I think that job is more pleasant than another one. I want it. This, right now, is everything. In this fight, we have four belts. It’s a really good fight.”

Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol for the undisputed WBA, WBC, IBF & WBO light-heavyweight titles needs to happen… pic.twitter.com/a989Etav3h

    — Michael Benson (@MichaelBensonn) January 28, 2023

Artur Beterbiev’s trainer Marc Ramsay also believes and endorses the same.

“Of course, the fight that we want is the fight with Bivol,”

    said Ramsay.

“It’s not a question of Bivol. It’s not personal. He has the last belt, the belt that we want. No other fight. Especially with Artur. A lot of fighters fight for money.

“This is what the target is. Artur is not a question of money. He wants to have that belt. It’s not about how many millions he can do. It’s just we want that belt.

It is now up to the authorities to finalize whether Artur Beterbiev will face unification with Dmitry Bivol or enforce a mandatory defense against England’s Callum Smith.

Anthony Yarde has now experienced two failed attempts to become world champion, although improving his popularity by challenging Beterbiev at times and withstanding the hefty shots from one of the most capable knockout artists in boxing.

Anthony Yarde: "A lot of these people get one of these [world title shots] – come, just beat up someone, get a belt. I'm fighting these flipping Russians that have got veins and abs. God gives his toughest battles to the strongest of warriors. I'll be back man." [@BTSportBoxing]

    — Michael Benson (@MichaelBensonn) January 29, 2023

This tells one thing about the man; he’s not a quitter. He’s a fighter, and he’ll get back there to give it his best shot as soon as possible. And when that happens, RDX Sports will be right there to keep you updated.
