According to Colby’s manager Dan Lambert, UFC’s brass has reached out to 30-year-old artist, to see if he was ready to rumble for the title at UFC 233 on January 26 in Anaheim, California. Colby Covington vs. Tyron Woodley would be aired as pay-per-view event.
During his recent interview with Fightful, Lambert stated about widely anticipated Colby Covington vs. Tryon Woodley,
“The timing on the September fight [at UFC 228] didn’t work for Colby cause he had just had some surgery and it would have been a crazy quick turnaround. They’ve reached out and asked if Colby would be available in January on the 26th show. But not sure if T-Wood’s gonna be available for that show. He’s still getting over some surgery himself on his hand, so I’m not quite sure on when that fight’s gonna be but if I had to guess, it would be on the January or the February show. Could trickle into March depending on T-Wood’s hand.”
Tyron Woodley had to undergo a surgical treatment for his hand, following his victory over Briton Darren Till in UFC 228 in Dallas.
There were news that Colby would be stripped off from his title as soon as T-Wood and Darren Till’s fight went underway. However, according to Lambert, no one reached out from the promotion to Chaos to relinquish his title.
Whether Colby still holds the belt doesn’t matter, since there would only be one champion keeping it, once the fight between two welterweight artists is over.
Other notable fights lined up for UFC 233 include a tantalizing bout between flyweight title holder Henry Cejudo and bantamweight artist TJ Dillashaw for 125lb. division title. The event will also host a première bout of Ben Askren with Robbie Lawler.
